What Is an Aunt or Uncle DNA Test?
This indirect relationship test compares genetic markers between an alleged biological aunt or uncle and a possible niece or nephew. The laboratory calculates the statistical likelihood that they share the claimed relationship.
The aunt or uncle should be a full biological sibling of the unavailable parent whenever possible. A half-sibling relationship may reduce the strength of the comparison and must be disclosed.
How the DIY Test Works
- Place your order and review the emailed instructions.
- Collect cheek swabs, or follow the directions for an approved alternative sample.
- Air-dry and package each person’s samples in a separate labeled paper envelope.
- Complete the paperwork and ship the samples with tracking.
- Receive confidential informational results after laboratory review.
Collection supplies and prepaid shipping are not included. You provide the swabs, envelopes, packaging, and tracked return shipping.
When to Choose the DIY Version
- You want to begin without waiting for a physical kit
- You do not want a DNA-testing package delivered to your address
- You are comfortable using your own supplies
- You can arrange tracked return shipping
- You are outside the U.S. and want to avoid kit-delivery delays
Should the Child’s Biological Mother Be Included?
The child’s biological mother is optional but recommended when available. Her profile may help separate maternal markers from those relevant to the questioned relationship and strengthen the analysis. Contact us before mailing if you would like to add her.
When a Paternity or Maternity Test Is Better
A direct parent-child test is preferred whenever the possible parent is available because it generally provides a more definitive result. Aunt or uncle testing is for cases in which direct testing is not possible. Results are statistical and may be inconclusive.
Advanced 46-Marker Testing and Accredited Laboratory Standards
My Forever DNA® guarantees a specific panel of 46 DNA genetic markers for aunt or uncle testing. This expanded analysis supports stronger statistical confidence, greater reliability, and clearer indirect relationship results.
Testing includes dual-processing verification and scientific review through a trusted U.S.-based laboratory partner with AABB accreditation and CAP certification. These standards support strict quality control, proficiency testing, external assessment, and laboratory accountability.
Review our advanced DNA laboratory standards, accreditation, and accuracy process to learn why our testing approach provides greater confidence.
Cheek Swabs and Alternative DNA Samples
Cheek swabs are preferred, but approved alternative samples may be accepted. Success depends on the item and its condition. Contact a DNA Specialist before mailing one.
