Multi-Location At-Home DNA Tests | 1 Order, 2 Locations

One DNA Test from Two Different Locations

Family members do not need to be in the same place to complete a relationship DNA test. A multi-location kit sends separate collection materials to two U.S. addresses and connects both returns under one laboratory case.

Each person collects a cheek-swab sample at home and mails it back directly. There is no need to meet, coordinate a shared collection time, or send one kit between households. The separate locations change the shipping setup, not the laboratory analysis.

Multi-location testing is available for paternity, maternity, siblings, grandparents, aunts or uncles, and twin zygosity.

When a Multi-Location DNA Test Makes Sense

Choose a multi-location kit when:

  • A parent and child live in different homes or states.

  • Adult relatives cannot travel to collect together.

  • Siblings or twins now live in different cities.

  • A grandparent and grandchild need their own collection materials.

  • A shared custody schedule makes one-location collection difficult.

For paternity cases, the alleged father and child receive separate kits connected to the same father-child comparison. You can review the full range of options in our paternity DNA test collection.

Choose the Relationship Before You Choose the Shipping Setup

Multi-location describes where the materials go. You still need to choose the biological relationship the laboratory will evaluate.

  • Paternity or maternity: A direct parent-child comparison.

  • Sibling: A possible full-sibling or half-sibling relationship.

  • Grandparent: A grandparent-grandchild relationship through an unavailable parent.

  • Aunt or uncle: A possible relationship through the biological sibling of an unavailable parent.

  • Twin zygosity: A comparison for people already known to be twins who want to learn if they are identical or fraternal.

If you are unsure which relationship applies, tell us who can provide a sample. We will help you choose the correct test before the kits are sent.

How Multi-Location DNA Testing Works

1. Select the relationship test. The standard multi-location setup covers two kits sent to two U.S. addresses.

2. Provide both shipping addresses. Each participant receives their own collection materials and instructions.

3. Collect and return samples separately. Both returns are connected under the same case.

4. Wait until the complete case arrives. Laboratory processing begins after every required sample and form has been received and accepted.

5. Receive the results by email. The turnaround follows the relationship test you selected.

Paternity, maternity, and twin zygosity results typically require 1 to 3 business days in laboratory processing. Sibling, grandparent, and aunt or uncle comparisons typically require 2 to 3 business days. The full timeline can be longer because the two shipments travel separately.

More Than Two Locations or an International Address

The standard products in this collection cover two kits and two U.S. addresses. Contact us before ordering if you need:

  • Three or more kits sent to separate locations.

  • Shipping to or from another country.

  • A cheek swab from one person and an alternative sample from another.

  • A larger case involving several children or relatives.

International courier service, customs requirements, and return options vary by country. Alternative samples also need to be reviewed before collection. See our discreet DNA testing options if one participant cannot provide a cheek swab.

Personal Testing and Legal Collection Across Locations

Standard multi-location kits are self-collected and intended for personal knowledge. Legal DNA testing can also be coordinated across separate locations, but every participant must complete verified identification, witnessed collection, and documented chain of custody.

If the result may be used officially, start with our legal DNA testing options.
