Twin Zygosity Home DNA Test | Identical or Fraternal Twins
At-home twin zygosity DNA test using cheek swabs to find out if twins are identical or fraternal.
The My Forever DNA® Twin Zygosity DNA Test helps determine whether twins are identical or fraternal with simple, private at-home collection. Get answers for newborns, children, teens, or adults with no doctor visit, online portal, barcode activation, or complicated registration.
A twin zygosity DNA test compares the DNA profiles of twins to determine whether they share the same genetic profile. Matching profiles support that the twins are identical twins; non-matching profiles support that they are fraternal twins.
Families choose zygosity testing for personal knowledge, family history, medical background awareness, or peace of mind. Appearance alone cannot always confirm twin type.
When cheek swabs from both twins yield viable DNA, the result is scientifically conclusive. Identical twins share essentially the same DNA at every marker location tested. Fraternal twins have distinct DNA profiles, with genetic similarities comparable to other full siblings. The comparison runs at 24 DNA genetic markers plus Amelogenin (for gender identification) with dual processing through a US-based AABB-accredited and CAP-certified laboratory partner.
If the two people being tested aren't confirmed twins (born from the same pregnancy), a standard sibling test is the right test instead. Zygosity testing assumes both participants were born from the same pregnancy and answers whether they came from one egg or two. If the family relationship itself is in question, order the sibling test.
From newborns to adults, this at-home test helps families learn whether twins are identical or fraternal using one kit sent to one address. Choose the participant count that fits your twins or larger set of multiples, collect each person's cheek swabs separately, and receive your results with support from a dedicated DNA Specialist.
