Can you get a paternity test without the father knowing?
Yes, using an alternative DNA sample collected from an item the alleged father has used. This kit is built for that scenario. One participant (usually the child, but it can be either) provides a standard cheek swab. The other participant's DNA comes from an item they've used regularly: a toothbrush, hair with roots from a hairbrush, nail clippings from a bathroom, or a used razor. The person contributing the alternative sample doesn't need to be present, aware, or willing.
How a secret paternity test actually works
The forensic DNA lab isolates a usable profile from the alternative item using extraction techniques designed for small, mixed, or degraded biological samples. That profile is compared against the cheek swab at 24 DNA genetic markers with dual processing. When paternity is confirmed, results typically show 99.999% or higher. When paternity is excluded, exclusion is 100%. The comparison is scientifically identical to any other paternity test.
Which alternative samples work best for secret collection
Ranked by how discreetly they can usually be collected and how reliably they yield DNA:
-
Used toothbrush (20+ uses): highest yield, easy to obtain without notice from a bathroom.
-
Hair with roots from a used hairbrush or comb: reliable if the hairbrush is used only by the target person. Cut hair without roots does not work.
-
Nail clippings from a bathroom trash bin: works but requires enough clippings from a recent trimming.
-
Chewed gum: works if fresh and stored dry.
-
A used razor (electric brush head or disposable): captures skin cells and beard hair with roots.
-
Earwax on a cotton swab, used tissues, dental floss: work under the right conditions, higher variability.
Water bottles, cups, and utensils are not accepted. They rarely contain enough DNA and usually carry contamination.
Legal considerations for secret DNA testing
Consent laws around DNA collection vary by state, country, and jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions require the consent of the person whose DNA is being tested, particularly for a legal DNA test. This kit is for informational testing only, and the result is not court-admissible regardless of how the sample was collected. Ensuring that the collection of a discreet sample complies with local law is your responsibility.
If you are unsure, consult a local attorney before ordering. My Forever DNA does not provide legal advice, and results cannot be used in a custody, immigration, child support, or estate proceeding.
When to choose this product vs. others in the collection
-
Choose this product if the priority is that the alleged father not know a test is being conducted, and you're open to submitting whichever alternative sample you can obtain discreetly.
-
Choose the Hair Follicle kit (Product 3) if you specifically have access to hair with roots.
-
Choose the Single Toothbrush kit (Product 4) if you specifically have access to a used toothbrush.
-
Choose the Two Toothbrushes kit (Product 5) if neither participant can provide a cheek swab.
-
Choose the general Alternative Samples kit (Product 2) if privacy framing is less important than sample flexibility.
