Discreet "Secret" Home Paternity DNA Test Using Alternative DNA Samples
This is our flexible discreet paternity kit. One participant provides a standard cheek swab, and the other provides any single accepted alternative DNA sample. You do not have to commit to hair, toothbrush, or any specific sample type when you order. Once your kit arrives, you decide which alternative sample gives you the best chance of a clean result based on what you have access to.
Which alternative sample should you use?
Sample viability varies based on how much DNA the item captured, how old it is, how it was stored, and how much contamination it picked up from other people. Ranked from most to least reliable in typical conditions:
-
Used toothbrush (20+ uses, used only by the person being tested): most concentrated cheek-cell source outside of an actual swab.
-
Hair with the root or follicle attached, 25 to 50 strands: reliable when roots are intact. Cut hair without roots does not work.
-
Nail clippings, 5 to 10 pieces: reliable when clean and dry.
-
Earwax on cotton swab: works but yields less DNA than the top three.
-
Chewed sugar-free gum: works when fresh and stored dry.
-
Dental floss picks, used tissues, razor debris, cigarette filters: possible but higher risk of contamination or insufficient DNA.
If your first choice fails viability, we contact you before running anything else. Additional samples are subject to a lab fee for the extra forensic work.
How discreet paternity testing actually works
The lab isolates a usable DNA profile from the alternative sample using forensic extraction techniques, then compares that profile against the child's cheek swab (or the alleged father's cheek swab, depending on which participant provided which sample) at 24 DNA genetic markers. When paternity is confirmed, results typically show 99.999% or higher probability. When paternity is excluded, exclusion is 100%.
When to use this product vs. the sample-specific kits
-
Choose this product if you have not committed to a specific alternative sample yet, or want to submit whichever sample is easiest to collect discreetly.
-
Choose the Hair Follicle kit if you know hair is the only option available.
-
Choose the Toothbrush kit if you have access to a used toothbrush from the participant.
-
Choose the Two Toothbrushes kit if a cheek swab cannot be collected from either participant.
-
Choose the Aunt or Uncle discreet kit if the alleged father is not available for testing at all.
When this test is not the right choice
This is an informational test. Results are not court-admissible and cannot be used in custody, immigration, child support, or estate cases. Legal DNA testing is a separate service that requires witnessed collection and photo identification. If a lawyer, judge, or agency will see the result, order a legal test instead.
